HCC East Palo Alto

HCC East Palo Alto was initiated in 2018 as a partnership between the Stanford School of Medicine and East Palo Alto Academy High School. 

The HCC faculty sponsors at Stanford School of Medicine are Dr. Jennifer Williams, Clinical Assistant Professor, Medicine – Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine, and Dr. Jill Helms, Professor of Surgery (Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery).

The program was started by Stanford medical students Carlie Arbaugh and Joshua Taylor who were recipients of the Health Career Collaborative Program Initiation Grant in 2018.

East Palo Alto high school students demonstrate the physical exam to assess a potential ACL injury. The demonstration accompanied their academic presentation on the topic.
The finale presentations are followed by a lunch where medical student mentors can socialize with their high school student mentees and answer questions about career paths and medical careers.
